Sierra Vista is a community of nearly 40,000, sitting in a high valley or Mesa, surrounded by several mountain ranges, and located about 70 miles southeast of Tucson. Our altitude of over 4500 feet allows us to boast temperatures several degrees cooler than more well known Arizona cities like Tucson or Phoenix. Sierra Vista is a growing city , which provides most of the comforts of larger cities but preserves some of the small town, Old West flavor. The principle industry is the U.S. Army's Fort Huachuca, headquarters for both Army Communications and Army Intelligence. Sierra Vista is located in Cochise County, conveniently near the towns of Bisbee and Tombstone (home of the legendary Wyatt Earp, the OK Corral and Boot Hill). The Mexican border lies 26 miles to the south and the newly opened Kartchner Caverns lies to the north. The U.S. Forest Service maintains National Forest areas in the Huachuca Mountains, which are great for hiking, as well as the Coronado National Monument and the San Pedro River Riparian Conservation Area. The Nature Conservancy maintains the Mile High Preserve in Ramsey Canyon immediately south of the Windemere Hotel. This facility is world famous as perhaps the home to the greatest variety of Hummingbirds in North America. Of course horse back riding remains a popular pastime. The Cochise Stronghold, excellent for rock climbing, and the Wonderland of Rocks in the Chiricahua Mountains is an easy day trip from the hotel. As Sierra Vista's finest Hotel and Conference Center, the Windemere is particularly well located to satisfy a wide variety of interests and activities. |

The Windemere Hotel and Conference Center is conveniently located near three local golf courses in order to accommodate those who wish to take advantage of the 360 annual days of fine golf weather here in Southeastern Arizona. Pueblo Del Sol, a championship quality course, is located in Country Club Estates, about one quarter of a mile from the hotel. This is a superior private facility with reasonable greens and cart fees. The Mountain View Golf course on Fort Huachuca is a challenging and beautiful course tucked against the mountains on Fort Huachuca. Lastly, Turquoise Valley is a small course near the Mexican border between historic Bisbee and Naco, Mexico. All three of these courses are a delight to play and are within easy driving distance from the Windemere. Our Front Desk staff is more than willing to assist you with your golf arrangements. Southern Arizona offers excellent golf opportunities in addition to those near the hotel. Additionally, The Cochise Health & Racquet Club. This full service club is located adjacent to the hotel property and offers swimming, racquetball and volleyball, while free weights, Nautilus, dozens of exercise machines, health classes, steam rooms and sauna are all available in this fine facility. There is even a fully equipped private exercise area for women only. The Cochise Health & Racquet Club compares quite nicely with the best of clubs located in major urban areas.
